Archery Elk Hunting Oregon - Crossbow Hunting Offers New Opportunities For Success

Archery Elk Hunting Oregon

Crossbow hunting is rapidly growing in popularity due to changes in the laws in most states and provinces. In this article we'll explore crossbow hunting in some depth, including a look at some of the top manufacturers of quality crossbows. Until recently, crossbow hunting was either banned or restricted to those with verified disabilities that prevented them from drawing a compound bow. But aggressive lobbying by avid hunters eager to try a new generation of fast-flying weapons now means that crossbow hunting is enjoyed in all but a few regions. Typically, crossbow hunting is allowed wherever bow hunting is permitted, but in some instances it is restricted to rifle hunting regions. The reason for this is the speed of the arrow coming off a crossbow, typically in the 300 to 370 feet per second range. Traditional compound bows usually release at 250 to 325 fps.

Crossbow hunting offers several advantages to hunters. First of all, a crossbow is an incredibly accurate weapon. Most hunters will find that their marksmanship improves 15-20% with one, meaning more kill shots. This is one factor hunters used to argue for legalizing crossbow use -in one sense, it is a more humane way to hunt since fewer animals are injured without being killed quickly. Coupled with the blazing speed, they are indeed deadly. Secondly, crossbows are lighter than compound bows, so packing them into the wood or field is easier. Finally, being smaller, they offer a lower profile, making it easier to remain concealed when crossbow hunting from a blind on the ground or a tree stand. In fact, many hunters enjoy moving through the woods more when hunting this way, stalking their prey rather than waiting for it to come to them. Archery Elk Hunting Oregon

Whilst this type of hunting is employed mostly for harvesting deer, these innovative weapons are also used to hunt turkeys, bear, wild boar, elk or caribou, varmints like coyotes, and are even used in lake or river settings to hunt carp. They deliver their arrows on target at great speed, and have a range that is slightly better than the range of typical hunting bows. Crossbow hunting from 40-50 yards is about the maximum distance one should consider.

Many of the manufacturers of compound bows have gotten into making hunting weapons. You'll find high quality crossbows from Horton, Barnett, Parker, TenPoint, Excalibur, and others. Most are finished in camouflage colors for stealth crossbow hunting, and they can be equipped with a scope for greater aiming abilities, especially when the target is 30-50 yards away.

If you've always been intrigued by the prospect of hunting with a crossbow, now is a great time to get in the game. Outstanding equipment is available at affordable prices, and you will likely find areas near where you live open to this sport. Check local laws before heading out, and enjoy your time in the woods! look for a fur friendly coyote gun.?
Hello all. I am looking to get into coyote hunting. But I wish to save the hides. I own a 12 gauge pump shotgun A k98 Mauser A Mousin Nagant (I believe m44) And a Chinese SKS I was originally thinking of getting a few odds and ends for the SKS. But then I thought hay, I haven?t bought a gun in a while. So why not pick one up. I am looking for a fur friendly coyote hunting gun. And was wounding what would be a good choice for me. Keep in mind that I (like everyone else) am on a budget. And not looking to spend more then $350 (for the whole 9 yards) I have heard tell that the SKS is a good coyote gun, but it kind of messes with the fur yes?? Also, since the fur is my main goal hear, I have been told to take a head shot whenever I can get one.... is this a good idea?
