Choosing the Best Butchering Knives for Processing Deer Meat

When a hunter processes game to put meat in the freezer, no meat should go to waste. And if you don't have the proper tools on hand, it's too easy to leave good meat on the hide when it could be used for burger or jerky.

But with the right tools, none of the game will go to waste, including the liver.

There are a variety of tools in a set of butchering knives that are essential pieces of equipment for the home butcher as well as butcher shops. When you're Processing Deer meat, you want to be able to get the most meat off the bones and best cuts from the deer.

What your set of butchering knives should include to make your job go easily:
* Butcher Knives
* Curved Boning Knives
* Skinning Knives
* Cleaver Knives
* Sharpening Steels

Butcher Knives
When processing a large animal like deer, elk, bear, etc., butcher knives will give you the large cuts you will need. A butcher knife is one of the tools in a set of butchering knives that is a necessity for this type of job.

Boning Knives
The boning knife is for deboning cuts of meat for making boneless ribs, boneless roasts or for the cuts of meat you'll be using to make ground meat or jerky.

Skinning Knives
Skinning knives are a special tool in your set of butchering knives and are used to remove the hide from your animal with ease and to prevent lifting any meat off with the skin.

Many people like taking the hides to a tanning shop to make throw blankets or rugs from the hides. A skinning knife is a real handy tool for making sure the hide is removed easily while not losing any meat in the process.

Cleaver Knives
For large cuts of meat like the hind quarters and such, a cleaver is a good tool to have on hand to easily make those parts a bit smaller with one big chop.

Sharpening Steels
You need to keep your butchering knives sharpened in order to make a job with your knives go really smooth so sharpening steels are great tools to have in your kit. You'll save money too because you can sharpen your knives at home instead of having to take them to a shop to have them sharpened for you.

Having the best butchering knives in your shop will make the job a lot easier.
