How To Draw Deer Out To Hunt Them During The Day
So how do you draw the deer out during shooting hours? Deer may stay bedded during the daytime in your area depending on the season. Naturally they are more nocturnal animals and make their rounds during the night time. This poses a problem to daytime hunters and huntresses.
To get around this problem there a couple of practical methods:
Solution A: Drive them out! Drive them out with vehicles or on foot or with a pack of dogs. Great deer dog breeds include Bluetick, Black and Tan, Beagles, and Walker Hounds. If you do intend to get involved in a drive you must treat it like a military operation. Communication must be thorough and the movement of everyone involved must be planned before hand. More than half of all hunting accidents occur during deer drives because unintentional crossfire is more likely when there are multiple hunters with projectile weapons moving through the wilderness in the same area.
Solution B: Hunt During the Rut! Hunting during the breeding season is always an option of you have had trouble crossing paths with your prey! Deer become much more diurnal (the opposite of nocturnal) during their mating season. There are some factors which play a role on the biological clocks of deer which will help you narrow down the time period of the rut in your area.
- The length of day
- Moon phases
- Weather
- Herd condition

Solution C: Use a Decoy! Deer decoys must be kept from absorbing human scent at all times. When you handle the decoy, wear carbon threaded clothing. Using deer urine on the decoy is also effective. Typically deer will approach a decoy given they do not catch any human scent.
